History Of UEFA Euro Cup

Initially played in 1960 under the name of UEFA European Countries Container, the possibility of this well known European football group was initially proposed by Henri Delaunay in 1927 who was an individual from French Football Alliance. At last in 1960, his fantasy transformed into reality and the competition was held in France. In his respect, the competition trophy was named as Henri Deluanay Trophy. 17 groups partook out of which three groups did not played-West Germany, Britain and Italy. Among the 14 remaining groups, USSR advanced into the last and won the principal competition trophy by outmaneuvering Yugoslavia by 2-1.
